Becoming an avid sports Photographer can be as fun and addictive as the games we play. When I refer to Sports photography, I am referring to the pastime and skill of photography that covers all types of sports, whether amateur or professional.

In the world of sports photography it's all about getting the right shot at the right moment. As a sports photographer you're presented with numerous obstacles at times not including the technical photographic equipment we now have in abundance. Sports photography is with out a doubt a place where you can burn quote a few frames just to get your timing down and learn the techniques on perfecting how to photograph a moving target through a lens.

Thank goodness we now have digital cameras. Using a digital camera can allow you to figure all of this out without braking the bank. Everyone likes a good action shot and, if your children participate in school sports, you'll want to remember and capture them as they were in school sports. Some of those games will be talked about for years to come. With sports photography you can literally bring those memories into clear focus with simply be looking at a picture.

A big part of sports photography has a lot to do with learning where to position yourself for the best sport pictures. When shooting try to shoot it like you would if you were on the field in the game playing yourself. Don't just get caught up in snapping shots but also be sure to enjoy the game as you watch all the action unfold but also anticipate the action unfolding and be ready to capture those sport shots. A good tip to bear in mind to remember to get as close to the action and what you are trying to shoot as possible. Shooting a player leaving the frame is poor composition. When you are shooting sports, bear in mind that action shot on the far side of the field are closer to the background than shots on the near side of the field.

When you're shooting an action shot you'll need to be aware of the players locations. If you're turning the camera so that the long side of the film is perpendicular to the ground, you are now shooting vertical or in portrait format. If you are going to shoot a baseball player running left to right, leave more room on the right side than the left to show that he is going somewhere.

Almost everyone wants digital images, and this equipment can be costly.
